The post-graduation grace period on student loan repayments will be extended by an additional six months if the People’s National Party (PNP) forms the next government.

Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, who made the announcement, said this is to give graduates more time to secure employment before their payment obligations begin.

Further, Robinson said a future PNP-led government would introduce a structured system that would allow student loan borrowers to renegotiate their repayment terms based on their income.

“Once borrowers are making payments under these adjusted terms, we will remove their delinquency status,” he said while making his contribution to the 2025–2026 Budget Debate in Parliament on Thursday.

He added that this critical reform would ensure young professionals are not unfairly penalized on their credit scores, which could hinder their ability to access loans, mortgages, and other financial services.
