61-y-o St Thomas man dies after being hit by taxi operator

A 61-year-old St Thomas resident died from injuries he suffered after being hit by a motor vehicle while walking along a roadway in the parish last night.

He is Assaro Stewart, a handcart operator of Bamboo River in Morant Bay.

Reports are that about 9:20, Stewart was walking in the vicinity of the Morant Bay Bus Park when he was hit by a Toyota Noah motor vehicle that was being operated as a public passenger vehicle.

He was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was warned for prosecution.

The Morant Bay Traffic Department is investigating the matter.
