Police constable charged with assault
A police constable was on Tuesday charged with assault for allegedly using excessive force on a man along Shortwood Road, St Andrew in 2024.
Constable Maurice Hylton was placed before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His station bail was extended and he was bound over to return to court on June 30.
It is alleged that the police officer used excessive force against the complainant when he struck him in the head with a baton, according to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
The incident occurred on July 30, 2024 and was captured on video.
Following an investigation by INDECOM, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that Hylton should be charged.
He was placed before the court by way of summons.
