Deported man charged with multiple counts of sexual intercourse with a minor
A Jamaican man who was wanted in connection with multiple counts of sexual intercourse with a minor has been charged following his deportation from the United States.
The accused is 28-year-old Sanjay Walsh, otherwise called “Sicky”, a forklift operator from Connecticut, USA.
Having sexual intercourse with a person under 16 is an offence under Jamaican law and is distinct from the offence of rape.
Walsh was arrested and charged upon arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport on Wednesday, confirmed Superintendent Anthony Wallace, head of the St Mary police division. “Walsh was deported to Jamaica and met by local law enforcement officers who executed a warrant of arrest upon his arrival.”
The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between November 2017 and January 2018 in Tremolesworth, Highgate, St Mary, involving a then 15-year-old girl.
According to police, the complainant, who is now 23, reported that she met Walsh in 2016 and developed a relationship with him. It is alleged that they engaged in sexual intercourse on multiple occasions during the period in question.
A formal report was later made to the police, resulting in a warrant being issued for Walsh’s arrest.
