Last year was an extremely challenging one for the Portia Simpson Miller-led Government. In fact, it can arguably be categorized as a year of ups and downs.

It is clear that what some members of the Simpson Miller administration expect is that the media will be part of a cheering squad delivering daily pats on the back for the performance of duties they were elected to execute.

The onset of the new year has been greeted by the good news that crime is going down in Jamaica. Its the kind of news many have longed to hear for several years as the population has consistently cited crime and violence as the greatest deterrent to the countrys progress in various opinion polls.

I recognise that it is the prerogative of our local bus company to determine what behaviour is appropriate on its buses. This is quite fine. I would love, however, for there to be consistency so that there is fairness to all.
