Scotiabank Jamaica has added a unit for premium clients and a Corporate & Commercial Banking Centre, mounted iPads for customers to get familiar with the world of digital delivery of services, and looks set to shed some of the stuffy image of a 131-year-old banking institution through the buildout of a modern banking hall.

The $1.5-billion upgrade to its headquarters and Scotia Centre branch also comes with what Scotiabank describes as an “expanded ABM Zone” populated by seven intelligent machines through which can customers can even buy American currency alongside other banking functions.

“We also made significant investments in our head office facility, adopting an Activity Based Work philosophy which offers our staff the flexibility to choose work settings based on the nature of the work they are doing at any given time,” said President & CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica David Noel in a company-issued statement following the unveiling of the new-age Scotia Centre.

His successor in waiting, Audrey Tugwell Henry, who is being promoted from executive vice-president to bank president effective January 1, says more online initiatives and products are in the pipeline for roll-out across the group next year.

“We are changing our processes across the entire Scotia Group to make things simpler and more convenient,” she said. “We set ourselves the audacious goal of building a bank for the future and redefining what a branch should be,” she said of the digital reformation.
