KFC Jamaica announces chicken shortage at select outlets

KFC Jamaica said this was because its lone supplier, Jamaica Broilers has been experiencing significant supply issues.

KFC Jamaica has told consumers that they should brace for chicken shortage at select outlets amid a tightening of supply.

In a social media post, KFC did not list the outlets where the shortage will exist.

However, it said this was because its lone supplier, Jamaica Broilers has been experiencing significant supply issues.

“We are working towards rectifying this unfortunate situation as best as we can but, unfortunately, this matter is out of our control," said KFC Jamaica.

The notice by KFC Jamaica coincides with considerations by the government to suspend import duties on chicken parts amid the latest price increase for chicken meat.

Chicken prices went up by 10 per cent this week.

President and CEO Christopher Levy said the company delayed the price increase in an effort to give Jamaicans an ease.

"We decided to hold and see if grains would turn, if the inflation would flatten out, but unfortunately, the indication and what we're seeing is not bearing out those hopes," he told The Gleaner last month.
