Music worth a million - Charity donation to accompany Tale as Old as Time
In June, the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company RCO (JMTC) will present the Jamaica Junior Theatre's (JJT) 2018 concert, Tale as Old as Time, in association with the Alhambra Inn. This year, the JJT concert will be produced by one of its junior members, Kodi Anne Brown, assisted by Concert Committee Chairperson Lucette Cargill and mentors Stephanie Hazel and David Tulloch.
Accompanists Joseph Brown and Jodi Johnson have volunteered their time and talent to accompany the young artistes.
The junior arm of the JJMTC, the JJT, will present their annual concert at the Alhambra Inn on Sunday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m. The concert series, which is produced annually in association with the Alhambra Inn, was originally developed as a way of providing affordable monthly entertainment for pensioners between December and May. When the JJT was born in the early 1980s, an additional concert was added to the series in June of each year.
In addition to the concert, the JJT produces a full musical play each year. The play provides an opportunity for training for young people in the theatre arts and teaches valuable lessons about volun-teerism. In December of 2017, the junior members visited Walker's Place of Safety for a Christmas treat and were saddened to learn, shortly after their visit, of the fire that destroyed the home and killed two of the children who were wards there.
The junior members were deeply impacted and felt moved to do something for their newly made friends at the home. The members and their parents held a special fundraiser for the home, and following the JJT's successful run of Beauty and the Beast, a decision was taken to donate $1,000,000 to the rebuilding efforts for Walker's Place of Safety.
On Sunday, June 3, the cheque will be handed over to the Child Development Agency (CDA) at the concert. Also, one member of the JMTC will awarded Junior Member of the Year at the event.
