The Entertainment Advisory Board (EAB), while welcoming announcements regarding the reopening of the sector, is imploring all stakeholders to strictly observe the protocols which are primarily geared at protecting the nation and to avert any spike in COVID-19 cases.

“We are also conscious of and share the ongoing concerns of the Ministry of Health and Wellness as it relates to any contribution that events could have on any spike or an uptick in the case count if the appropriate protocols are not followed,” the EAB stated in a release.

In this regard, the advisory board is appealing to all the members of the entertainment industry to comply with all mandatory protocols and to those persons operating in the entertainment space to “ensure that we do safe and secure events at all times that are in full compliance with the agreed protocols to make sure that this time around the restart can be sustained and prolonged without incident”.

The EAB is urging all members of the entertainment industry to come together at this time. “Seek out and join effective industry organisations so that we can have a more unified voice in entertainment, and not only in times of crises but at all times,” the release stated.

EAB Chairman Howard McIntosh used the opportunity to point out that some positives also came out of the COVID crisis and the shuttering of the industry. “It allowed us to take stock of ourselves and to be able to wheel and come again, stronger. All stakeholders should use this opportunity to unite and show the world how to rebound. We are all part of this great entertainment ecosystem. Now is the time to plan, organise and reset our great industry. Let us use this opportunity to show the world that entertainment is truly the heartbeat of our wonderful nation,” McIntosh said.

He pointed out that the entertainment industry is one of the leading sources of employment in the country and one of the leading foreign exchange earners. “We remain steadfast in our vision to become number one in both areas, and for people all over the world to seek to enjoy high-quality Jamaican entertainment delivered by professional, well-trained, creative and disciplined performer and service providers in well-equipped performing centres,” he continued.

The EAB comprises a group of entertainment and cultural and creative professionals who serve voluntarily, putting their expertise and experience at the minister’s disposal, which informs government policy.
