Ginjah The Reggae Soul Man excited about new path, readying new album
Ginjah The Reggae Soul Man has been tucked away in his homemade studio during the pandemic, recording music to the tune of six albums, one of which bearing his new moniker was released last year by Natures Way Entertainment, and he’s eyeing another with Tad’s International Records later this year.
“We’re looking forward to putting out this beautiful album, and we have most of the tracks already,” the singer told The Gleaner. “We have some tracks with Stingray crew and Blackmetro sound from the UK. I’ve done work with them before, but this is like no other. The album is going to be unlike any album I’ve done because the more you live, the more you learn, so the music we’re singing now is reggae music at its purest form where each and everyone can listen to a Ginjah song.”
He’s also excited about the project as it will usher in a new chapter of his more than two-decade-old career: love songs. Though his catalogue is no stranger to songs about love and relationships (cue his 2013 hit Sweet Killer), he’s been getting more attention for his latest ear-caresser These Arms.
“I’m excited about this path, it’s new. If you listen to my music, it has always been mostly inspirational songs, but now I’m touching some lovers rock cause our society needs love more than anything else ... That’s why I said this project is unlike any other because mi a do a whole lot of love songs cause I see where it has been working for me. I’ve always been asked, ‘Ginjah, why you don’t do some love songs?’, and I was looking into it, saying when the time is right. Now the time is right.”
THE HIGHLIGHT
Recorded in 2013, he shared that These Arms was rejected four times by different producers before getting the approval and support from Tad’s International Records this year. The Reggae Soul Man’s persistence and belief in the song are paying off.
“Father God is so great. It’s my song giving me the highlight that I’ve always wanted, so I’m telling everyone just believe in yourself no matter what people say. I did a beautiful video that’s coming out soon because what I want to inject in society is love because energy flows where attention goes. We don’t waan hear bout nuh domestic violence or nuh man a chop up any woman so ‘these arms’ is to love and protect, especially our Jamaican woman.”
In that regard, he is also promoting Fall in Love, another ballad for the belles which will have a visual premiere soon. As he spoke about his aim to spread messages of love in society, he called for balance in the musical messages permeating the airwaves, adding, “When you don’t have a balance, things get crazy and we’re having this chaos in our society where morals and good principles seem as if they are things of the past for some.”
Yet, his mission continues, even when he is miles away, having migrated to the United States two years ago to be with his three youngest children.
