GenXS reveals ‘Unleash the Dragon’ theme

GenXS Carnival is all set to ignite the carnival road march season as they ‘Unleash the Dragon’, which is the chosen theme for 2024. This revelation kicks off with an exclusive first look at a stunning costume designed to embody the essence of this electrifying and mythical theme.
Renowned Trinidadian designer Shawn Dhanraj is the genius behind this creation, aptly named Wendamyr. Drawing inspiration from attributes associated with these mythical creatures, Dhanraj explained that his deep appreciation for dragons and other fantastical creatures allowed him to seize the opportunity to create a piece that embodied the theme.
Bringing this costume to life was no small feat and was executed by carnival photographer Jeffrey Charles in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Model, dancer, carnival influencer and GenXS Jamaica ambassador Achsah Henry wore Wendamyr with grace.
The organisers emphasise that at the core of GenXS Carnival’s identity lies a dedication to telling stories through their costume designs. For the last staging of Carnival in Jamaica, they paid homage to the island’s iconic landmarks with their theme, ‘Return to Paradise’.
Kibwe McGann, GenXS director, shared his excitement. “Following the tremendous success of last year’s theme, we are elated to embark on a fresh journey that promises to set the carnival scene ablaze. Our costumes reflect the vibrant energy and passion that GenXSers bring to the road.”
He added that GenXS Carnival “will unveil more breath-taking costumes” during its launch on November 18 at the Ruins, UWI Visitors’ Lodge.
