After missing last year’s staging of Genesis Praise Fest, Gospel veteran Goddy Goddy says for 2024 he returned with ‘double power’.

Recalling what stopped him from performing he explained, “Last year I took sick. I was diagnosed with a sickness they call Bell’s Palsy. It’s a sickness that kind of cripples half of your face, it kills the nerves. So my face was twisted, I could not pronounce my words properly, I could not speak properly, I had to do speech therapy. It’s like I was a baby again learning to speak.”

He continued, “The muscles in my face, and in my shoulder, and in my hand were weak. I just had to rest and do my therapy to build back myself. The doctor said six months time I would be up and running again but God was so good and gracious to me I was up and running in three months.”

He explained that though he has been rigorous about his recovery, he almost missed the show for a second consecutive year.

“The enemy tried again because I was supposed to close Genesis this year enuh, but my blood pressure was high again this year. The doctor advised me to stay out of excitement, just drink up your coconut water with your lime. Eat up your cucumber, you know natural remedies because I don’t like certain kinds a medication, and get enough rest. I pray and cover myself but I asked them to put me on a little earlier in the show because I didn’t want to bleach out so long. So I decided that I wanted to go on a little early-ish this year so I can go home and get rest. But I definitely come back with double power this year to put in what I did not put in last year,” he said.

Making clear his love of the show, the pastor explained that he has been faithful to the festival for many years.

“Goddy Goddy is like a backbone of Genesis,” he began. “Even when Genesis was at a point where it was in the rebuilding stage. Some things did gwaan and the thing did kinda break down, I am one of [the] artistes that stand with Genesis throughout the years, through thin and thick. Even when dem nuh have nothing I tell my band we’re going and I tell my backup singers we’re going and we’re going to do this for the youths to build back Genesis. I am always a big fan and supporter of Genesis.”

As the music veteran, mentor and father pushes through his medical mishaps, he says he is looking forward to sharing the testimony of his experience in an upcoming album.

“Definitely this year 2024. I’ve been working on an EP but I think I’m going to make it a full album because I haven’t done any albums for the last seven years. So people can look for the new album this year, they can look for music videos this year, and of course we have things weh we a work pon weh talk bout the whole thing.”
