The desire for better education lead many young Jamaicans to the classroom, at the end of a day's work. In the technical line, courses were undertaken mainly by young men who wished to equip themselves for the highly competitive fields in which they were working or to which they aspired. Kingston Technical had 1,200 on roll for night classes. This was a greater number of students than attended day classes.
