“That’s good, Charles,” says Greta Fowler, co-producer of Jamaica Way, as she pats Charles Hyatt, who played the custos’ wife, affectionately on his stomach.

Several skills and talents involving the making of costumes, set designs, choreography, the writing of music, and many other aspects of a big show went into the 1960 pantomime Jamaica Way, which people close to the theatre say may well go down in history as the dancing pantomime. This was thanks to the teamwork of Eddie Thomas and Rex Nettleford. Thomas also played one of the leading roles as partner to Glenna Brydon, a dancing star from Canada.

Among the many others taking part in the show were Ranny Williams, who wrote the script; Louise Bennett, who was responsible for the songs of the show; Carlos Malcolm, director of music; Carmen Manley, Tony Appleton, Ronald Harrison, Lee Gordon, and the inimitable Charles Hyatt.

A production of the Little Theatre Movement, Jamaica Way was on at the Ward Theatre on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m., and on Saturday at 8 p.m.
