Nevis premier gives up salary amid COVID fallout, ministers take 10 per cent cut
Nevis premier Mark Brantley has given up 100 per cent of his salary until the federation overcomes the coronavirus.
At the same time, his Cabinet ministers have taken a 10 per cent salary cut for the next three months.
According to Brantley, they are making the financial sacrifice to benefit the people of the territory.
"We recognise the pain that this crisis has caused our people. We recognise that many have lost their jobs and that the loss of income has made it difficult for some of us even to ensure that we have food to eat," he said.
Brantley said given the demands on Cabinet ministers to sustain their families and assist constituents, their gesture demonstrates cohesion.
The premier and his colleague ministers will also be using personal resources to provide up to EC$13,500 worth of groceries each month for the next three months to the most vulnerable citizens.
