Jamaica’s men and women celebrated relay-medal performances on the penultimate day of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, yesterday. The men’s 4x100 metres team of Ackeem Blake, Oblique Seville, Ryiem Forde and Rohan Watson secured the team’s first podium finish in a major global championship since the 2016 Rio Olympics, with a bronze in 37.76 seconds. And the women’s 4x100 metres team of Natasha Morrison, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shashalee Forbes and Shericka Jackson mined back-to-back silver, clocking 41.21 behind the Americans, who won in a new championship record of 41.03. Fraser-Pryce sustained a muscle strain while running the second leg causing her to seek medical attention. The team wasn’t able to celebrate together, as concerned teammates left to check on her.
