RJRGLEANER set to shine at PAJ awards

When the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) hosts the National Journalism awards tonight, one of six members of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group will named Journalist of the Year in recognition of their body of work for 2025.

The annual awards show and after party are the culmination of National Journalism Week.

The effects of Hurricane Melissa last October forced the postponement of the 2025 National Journalism Week, which is usually observed in November.

The Gleaner’s Kimone Francis, Andre Williams and Jovan Johnson are notable inclusions in the coveted Journalist of the Year category.

They are joined by Racquel Porter of Radio Jamaica and Television Jamaica’s Romardo Lyons and Giovanni Dennis (now with CVM TV).

RJRGLEANER also dominates the nominees for the President’s Award for Investigative Journalism with Johnson and Livern Barrett joined by TVJ teams of Kayon Raynor, Kemar Taylor, Ivan Shaw and Delroy Higgins; Dennis, Dionne Jackson Miller, Omar Samuels, Richard Brown and Paul Davis; and Romardo Lyons, Ivan Shaw and Uton West as well as Radio Jamaica’s Nakinskie Robinson.

The Gleaner’s STAR team members Tiffany Pryce and Ashanti Lawson are among five reporters shortlisted in the Young Journalist of the Year category.

The print nominees for the Hugh Crosskill/Raymond Sharpe Award of Sports Journalism include The Gleaner’s Andre Williams, Tiffany Pryce and Ashley Anguin.

Seven journalists have been nominated for the Hector Bernard/Theodore Sealy Award for News Journalism (Electronic) including The Gleaner’s La Tania-Jonelle Hall, while seven Gleaner reporters, including Tanesha Mundle, Christopher Thomas and STAR team member Simone Morgan-Lindo have been nominated in the Print category.

Francis and Johnson are again nominated in the Carlton Alexander Award for Business Journalism along with six other reporters from TVJ, The Jamaica Observer and Money Media.

BEST BREAKING NEWS

The Best Breaking News Coverage Award category sees The Gleaner’s Corey Robinson and Williams jostling with a TVJ team of Kayon Raynor, Jeremain Brown and Kemar Taylor, Radio Jamaica’s Racquel Porter as well as Denise Walters and Kimberley Peddie, both of TVJ.

TVJ reporters were nominated in the electronic category for the Carl Wint Award for Best Feature story while Gleaner colleagues Sashana Small, Williams, Robinson, Erica Virtue, Francis and Johnson are shortlisted in the print category.

In a poignant moment, the late Donald Oliver, then of SportsMax, has been nominated in the Best TV Feature/Documentary category.

Other categories for awards are best Radio Feature/Documentary, the Morris Sealy Award for Radio Feature/Documentary, the Ken Dawson Award for Videography, the Aston Rhoden Award for News Photography, where The Gleaner’s Antoine Lodge and Ashley Anguin are nominated, the Junior Dowie Award for Sports Photography, with The Gleaner’s Matthew McKoy up for an award, the Errol Harvey Award for Human Interest Photography, the Morris Sealy Award for Opinion Journalism, UNICEF Award for Excellence in Reporting on Children’s Rights and Awards for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment, Technology, Agriculture and Health and Wellness.
