Refusal of seamen was against human-rights laws
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I was astonished and dismayed that the Government recently refused and prevented law-abiding citizens, the Jamaican seamen, to return. That refusal was not only against the Constitution and the Nationality Act but against international human-rights laws.
The report is timid and obsequious because it does not hold the Government to scrutiny.
The Government will be forced to set up the same safeguards for the convicted detainees as they should have done for the seamen. I hope this letter will compel the Government to rethink its decision and journalists to be more critical of the executive’s actions.
