That’s discrimination, FLA

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am a law-abiding citizen who has had no run-ins with the law for all my 54 years on earth. I am also a businessman who has been doing business most of my life.

There was a recent attempt on my life because people were trying to extort me, which I resisted.

I decided I was going to apply for a licensed firearm from the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA). They came and checked my house and my business and they also pulled the statement from the investigating officer.

One year after application, I received a message from them saying my application was denied because of the area in which I live. The message goes on to say the firearm will pose a great risk to me and my family, etc.

This is discrimination to the highest level!

I was denied based on where I lived and not the reason why I was applying. Neither was the fact that I am running a business, in which I handle a lot of cash, was taken into consideration. It is the same as denying a person a job based on their geographic location and not their qualification.

The reason for denying me a firearm is wrong, especially because two of my neighbours have a licensed firearm.

Was I denied because they want me to pay the fee to appeal or do they want me to move from where I live before I can get a permit?

May God help us and the criminals against whom we have no way of defending or protecting ourselves.
