PNP calls for rethink on Negril airport, pushes for road upgrades

Given that it will take years for the Montego Bay perimeter road to finish along with the bypass for Hopewell, Sandy Bay, Lucea and Green Island which will be connected to the perimeter road, I think it’s best to upgrade the airport until all that road infrastructure is finished. Anyone who lives in the west as I do and has seen the traffic congestion in Montego Bay, Hopewell, Lucea, Sandy Bay and Green Island would understand that you cannot have tourists sitting in this traffic after spending nine hours sitting in a plane from London or 10 hours from Vancouver. I can’t support the opposition on this, sorry. – El Comandante Mendes

Here’s something to consider; will fixing the road yield money to build an airport or will building an airport yield money to fix roads. What has the better ROI?! – @thebrandt_ja

It is ridiculous to put another airport in Jamaica. The island is not that big and what will happen is a dilution of support for all three airports. It is hard enough getting direct flights to Jamaica, what do you think will happen if airlines cannot regularly fill their flights? Increased prices all the way around. This new airport talk is not a good idea. Invest the money into the infrastructure, making roads better. – @terminal_dawn

I agree … bigger fish deh fi fry … Negril doesn’t need an international airport compared to other infrastructural upgrades that are necessary now … roads, drainage, etc. – @ajene_binns
