Commendations to JCF for stemming crime in St James

Published:Saturday | January 11, 2025 | 12:06 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Commendations are due to Commanding Officer of the St James police division, Superintendent Eron Samuels, and his entire hard-working team of police officers, with St James recording 62 less murders compared to 2023. This is a commendable and positive reduction in the numbers of murders for St James, and no small achievement. Worthy of note here is the fact that, over the Christmas holiday period, there were no recorded murders or shooting incidents and, for the entire month of December, there were only six murders.

Teams of police officers are seen in Montego Bay. This has certainly positively impacted the city. The quick response tactical police team in Montego Bay also deserves credit for they have prevented some crimes throughout last year and in other instances have successfully apprehended some wanted criminals within the parish of St James. Samuels has certainly proven himself to be a very hard-working senior officer since taking over command of the division in April 2024.

The senior police parish commander has given a stern public warning to all gang members operating in St James that the police will be going after them to apprehend them and bring them before the courts in 2025. Let us as citizens be responsible and incognito police informers and inform the St James police. Special congratulations are due to the Montego Bay Police Traffic Division officers for doing a very professional job of maintaining law, order and discipline on many streets of the city, always visible at important city street intersections and quite professional in the carrying out of their jobs. I can personally attest to the fact that they are well-trained, respectful, alert and professional and they continue to do the police force and their commander Superintendent Samuels proud by their full dedication and immense professionalism while working on the streets of Montego Bay.

I sincerely urge Superintendent Samuels to continue the excellent, outstanding and exemplary work as commanding officer, and wish his team all the very best for this new year, 2025.
