Expose sins to take Jamaica to righteous path

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The National Leadership Prayer Breakfast theme for 2025 is ‘Righteousness exalts a Nation’. While this is true, I feel the second part of this passage may be a more appropriate theme, ‘but sin is a reproach to any people’. Jeremiah explained in Lamentations 2 v14, “The visions of your prophets were false and worthless, they did not expose your sin to ward off your captivity. The oracles they gave you were false and misleading.”

The pastors and prophets that attend this great public prayer meeting may want to remember these words from Lamentations as they sit with the leaders of the nation and publicly pontificate on ‘righteousness exalts a nation’; and instead, do some exposing of the sins, especially in high places, such as access to justice and the deplorable speed of justice in the nation; lying; stealing; bribery; immorality; and the large number of flattering lips.

Joshua had great success at Jericho, but ran into problems and got defeated in battle at Ai. It was not until Joshua had dealt with the hidden sin of Achan that Israel’s victorious path was returned to. In reading the news, it would seem to me that Jamaica is not really on a victorious path. If The Holy Bible is correct, in order for Jamaica to return to a victorious path, certain sins, which to this day remain covered up, need to be exposed and recompense made to right these wrongs.
