Burning lessons from California’s wildfires

THE EDITOR, Madam:
The massive, unrelenting fires, currently, decimating parts of drought-ridden California are a horrific sight to behold. Two practical ways of solving or, at least, mitigating the negative effects of these yearly wildfires are to : (1) Construct 360-degree swimming pools or moats around homes located in fire-prone areas like the Pacific Palisades, Altadena and Pasadena, during the rebuilding phase; (2) Use fire-resistant building materials to rebuild homes; (3) Construct as many large lakes, as possible, throughout the California hills.
During this extremely challenging period of California’s life, there is one critical act that is needed in a heartfelt, Holy Spirit-filled and relentless basis – Christian prayer!
Last, during and in the aftermath of the California wildfires, hopefully, Californians will come to the realisation that, ‘all that glitters is not gold’; material possessions are superficial, and should not be worshipped, and that they can be here today and gone tomorrow. When all is said and done, life is the most precious possession we have and, as such, we should live for God and thank Him, for each and every day that we are alive here on Earth.
