Please help end noise pollution from sound systems

THE EDITOR, Madam:

An open letter to the minister of national security.

Must we continue to quietly suffer night and day, the consequences of sound system pollution in this country? I invite you to become as concerned for the health of our citizens, particularly the elderly and children, as I am.

Sufficient research exists that prove a negative correlation between excessive noise, the learning ability of children, the speed of recovery of the sick, and the health of senior citizens.

A few years ago, when the Dutch Ambassador complained about his sleep being destroyed by sound system noise, I was hopeful that our government would be so ashamed, they would immediately and effectively put an end to this monstrous behaviour right across the nation.

As it turns out, my faith was misguided.

I would like Jamaica to claim a place among nations regarded as civilised. I expect no less care and concern from you. Please, please put an end to this monstrosity.
