David Stair – accomplished son of Jamaica

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Custos Rotulorum of Hanover Dr David Stair died recently at his home in Pond Piece, Hopewell, Hanover. He was a very hard-working, dedicated and devoted medical doctor in Hanover, and was highly respected. He was known to, at times, provide free medical care to persons who could not afford to pay for his medical services, and had a firm, fervent and respectful passion for serving the less fortunate within the Jamaican society. He was among the prominent and vastly admired medical doctors across western Jamaica.

He served as custos for the parish for approximately 17 years, and did so with immense humility, distinction, probity and honour, always performing his many official and civic duties with the highest levels of integrity. He was a humble, gracious and respectful public servant of impeccable conduct and performance.

Anyone could approach and have dialogue with this great son of Hanover, and he was always willing to give counsel and advice. Dr Stair was well known in Hanover to be a mentor to many young persons and, correspondingly, financially assisted some young children to attend school over many years. He did not live only for himself but assisted needy children whenever he could, and this powerfully speaks positive volumes of Dr Stair.

All who interacted and worked with the late Custos Stair will inform you that he was always a calm, humble, caring and pragmatic-thinking medical doctor who enjoyed treating his patients. As the custos he fared exceptionally well, was always punctual, and attended most official functions.

Dr Stair was a distinguished custos who impeccably served the parish well, and he will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him. He was a great, successful, noted and accomplished son of Jamaica.
