Letter of the Day | Spice is hardly originator of slackness

THE EDITOR, Madam:

There is a misconception that slackness is uncovered and unclothed skin.

Yes, I would rather have the Spice poured on the feet of Jesus. Sadly, no one speaks of the systemic abuse of women in churches. I ask, where are the buses taking the elderly woman to and from church. Why has the wealth only blessed the pastor to drive a new 2025 vehicle?

All religious orders and church leaderships have homes, offices, car,s and secure meals. The rest of the population has mandatory fasts. Thus, is the message of the Church in Jamaica today relevant? Is the Church, as managed today, out of touch with the reality of the population? I ask not for a response to these questions but an answer with evangelism. A mission of the Church that is hardly evident today in Jamaica. The ‘fringe’ up-and-coming churches seem to be the only ones fired up with any message of healing to a broken society.

As a devout Christian, I am revolted by the hypocrisy that rubs across Christian denominations for decades. You lie silent in a warped theological impenetrable hierarchy. It is one that excludes you from sitting in some pews or under a fan turned off when you are out of breath. It is a good thing that God meets and ministers to the poor destitute woman, prostitute, the one with nothing left but the last meal, homeless, and barren, anywhere you find your bed, as the psalmist cries, even in hell.

Shame on those pastors condemning the oil poured to wash the feet of our children by Spice, especially girls in school. The girls are in crisis.

Spice, take the tour on the roadside. Churches remain closed throughout the week without opening their doors for after-school lessons. No innovations by churches to have youth services on Friday and provide the youth with bus fares.

To the so-called traditional churches, Jesus embraced the woman outcast and said “ He that is without sin, cast the first stone” .

It was the women with “spices” to anoint the body of Christ who first saw Jesus resurrected. The other disciples did not believe in their power. They simply got to the tomb first.

Why did Christ choose women otherwise overlooked, underpaid and marginalised to share in that glory! It is by grace that we are saved.

FAITH RESTORED
