Strive to build a better country, and help those in need

THE EDITOR, Madam:
It is quite obvious that many countries worldwide do not want and have respect for the people of colour. This is especially the case in most white-dominated countries. Not all Caucasians are like this but sadly, too many of them are. If someone is a person of colour, were born, reside, work and pay taxes in a white-dominated country, that country is as much theirs as it is of other citizens’, regardless of race.
If one is a deportee and one has been sent back to Jamaica, they must strive to be a good citizen. They should not tell lies or get involved with crime/corruption, and importantly they should not steal and/or kill. On the contrary, they must do their best to continuously build the country, while building their reputation. When we build our country, we contribute towards leaving a lasting legacy.
Jamaica is a developing country, but, our Creator is with us and will take us through the darkest night. Jamaica needs to strive to become a developing country not just in words but through hard work, dedication, determination, and changing our mindset. Our National Hero Marcus Garvey had a First World mindset and mentality and hence his exceptional and unparalleled achievements, which are recognised internationally.
The more prosperous the citizens of this country become, the more that prosperity needs to be shared with the less economically well-off, through philanthropy.
To be good, exemplary citizens we must be morally, mentally and ethically be strong, honest, hardworking, disciplined, kind, loving, gentle and patient. May God help us to build Jamaica. Some of us have no desire to leave this beautiful island, no matter what challenges come our way. Being wealthy has obvious benefits but silver and gold cannot buy us a good character, a strong reputation, or genuine respect.
For Jamaica to become better socially and economically we should strive to do as much good as we can, for as many persons we can, and for as long as we can.
