A National Treat with Christian Sweeney
Homesick Jamaicans longing for a taste of home, were last week given a ‘National treat’ at the closing ceremony of the Jamaica 55 Diaspora Conference courtesy of the National Baking Company.
Held on the picturesque East Lawns of Devon House, guests lined up in anticipation of what head chef and owner of Fuzion Food Service, Christian Sweeney was about to deliver. In spectacular Sweeney fashion - he did not disappoint.
You could see the joy on their faces as a ‘taste of home’ tantalised their taste buds. Their palates were satisfied with delicious pulled pork and jerk sausage panade, soaked water crackers in coconut pesto served with jerked chicken and soaked water crackers in a creamy alfredo sauce with sausage and bacon.
Convened every two years by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Jamaica Diaspora Conference features three days of discussion. Those in attendance get a chance to have a say in what happens at home, when the activities and plans such as the Government’s growth agenda, the opportunities in education, health, agriculture, research and innovation and the cultural and creative industries are presented.
