Professor Verene Shepherd used J. Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum as a mark of respect to the spirits and Culture Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange took on the role of a spiritual mother as they unveiled the enslaved people monument ‘Lest We Forget’ at the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience in St Elizabeth. Monday was indeed a day of celebration, as the rum makers paid tribute to former enslaved people on the sugar plantation. Some 128 names made it on the Trishaunna Henry-designed monument, which will now form part of the iconic attraction. Something Extra brings you the highlights.
