Did you know that the anatomy of sea turtles has influenced the architectural design of a few homes worldwide primarily because of the formation and distinguishing appearance of their intricate, protective shells? This presented villa did not try to imitate the form of those turtles, but instead, went a step further by positioning itself ever so delicately and responsibly right within their very habitat.

The most beautiful of the species known to man is the hawksbill sea turtle, so called for its sharp, bird-like (beak) as seen on hawks, hunted and killed illegally for its eggs and meat - now at extinction threat levels!

Here, at the undisturbed community of Fort Charles, in Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, you will unearth one of the foremost marine turtle conservation and preservation zones. Experience getting up close and personal with the precious hawksbill species and witness firsthand, the wonderment of their hatching behaviour.

The three-tiered, solar-powered house with an infinity pool is sequestered on a wooded hillside and slopes down the terraced garden site to the nesting beach area, accented by its private cove.

With respect to the building’s enjoyable layout of 4,500 square feet, with an extra 1,000 square feet of outdoor living space, on one acre, we observe two living rooms on separate levels. We also take notice of the indoor-outdoor dining areas and the island-fitted kitchen with a pantry. Sleeping sections include four bedrooms (with two principal ones), five bathrooms, and a powder room.

In this pleasing mix are wet rooms with bronze-fitted, double-sink vanities, and walk-in glass showers. There is also a zen garden with a trellised outdoor shower and soaking tub, a segregated treetop haven, and various floating balconies and decks. Coupled with that is a barbecue area, a koi fish pond, and a beach gazebo. Further observation reveals, high vaulted ceilings, walls and walls of light-filled glass openings, and timber floating stairs. The paint applied to surfaces comprises shades of brown and green.

The project was completed in 2023, one year after the commencement of construction. Its occupants are vigorous guardians of one of the world’s most critically endangered reptiles within their midst – the hawksbill sea turtle.
