Winnie Harlow’s wax figure makes history at Madame Tussauds New York
Winnie Harlow says it best: “What a dream come true.”
The Jamaican-Canadian supermodel, beauty entrepreneur, and advocate made history on World Vitiligo Day with the unveiling of her wax figure at Madame Tussauds New York – the first wax figure ever created with vitiligo.
“This is a stamp in time for representation,” Harlow wrote to her followers on Instagram. “It was so important to me to launch on this day as the first person with vitiligo to have a wax figure!”
Her joy was clear as she stood beside the lifelike figure – a powerful tribute not only to her career, but to the global community of people living with vitiligo. “Thank you to the incredible team at @madametussaudsusa for working endless hours,” she continued, noting how meaningful it was to celebrate with supporters from around the world. “Thank you to my vitiligo brothers and sisters who pour their love into me. We have a community that we always longed for, and it’s worth its weight in gold.”
The launch marks a major milestone in Harlow’s journey – one that has always been defined by confidence, beauty, and breaking barriers. Best known as the founder of Cay Skin and a voice for inclusive representation in fashion and beauty, she has continuously used her platform to challenge stigma and empower others.
“When anyone comes to see my wax work,” Harlow said at the unveiling, “I hope they feel seen. I hope they know that if you put your mind to it, the powers that you hold within you can shine.”
Harlow’s figure is a standout for more than just its meaning. Because vitiligo naturally evolves, the Madame Tussauds team captured her exact skin pattern at the time of her sitting, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind tribute to her individuality.
The figure wears the dazzling gold sequin gown Harlow donned at the 2023 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show – donated by the brand and styled by Harlow herself to spotlight her skin. Gold Louboutin heels and iced-out jewellery complete the look, bringing her signature glam to life.
“I appreciate you guys for uplifting me and taking the weight of me being a first by you guys being the BEST,” she told her vitiligo community who attended the launch for the special unveiling. “I watch you guys walk in your strength and confidence, and wish little Winnie could see you all. You’re my family. I love you to the moon and back.”
Winnie Harlow’s wax figure is now on display at Madame Tussauds New York.
