Fun in the park
The dirt flew with every kick of the ball, and there was not much shade from the sun for the domino players, but that could not stop the fun as residents of four communities in the greater Allman Town area enjoyed a football and domino fiesta in the National Heroes Park last Sunday.
Organised by a committee which includes personnel from the Allman Town Police Station and two representatives of each of the four communities Allman Town, Campbell Town, Woodford Park and Kingston Gardens the day was designed to bring the cops and the people they serve closer.
?We commissioned the SDC (Social Development Corporation) to do a survey of the residents to see how we were serving them and what service they would like and then the SDC did a survey of the police on how did they think they were serving the residents,? Inspector Verna Henry told The Gleaner.
?Armed with the results of the two surveys we met with the residents and talked about what they wanted from us and what we wanted from them,? added Henry.
She said out of that meeting plans were put in place to bring the police and the residents closer.
?So this football and domino fiesta was one of those measures and I think it went very well,? said Henry.
That was a view shared by several residents who enjoyed the fun in the park.
