A retired army officer has revealed that the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) used "explosives" to clear a roadblock leading into Tivoli Gardens during the May 2010 operations.

However, retired Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Sewell, who was in charge of the JDF second battalion at the time, says he has "no idea" what kind of explosives were used.

Sewell was testifying during cross-examination before the west Kingston commission of enquiry a today.

According to him, the army had information that the roadblocks, which were mounted across from the Tivoli Gardens High School, along Industrial Terrace, were "boobie-trapped".

"Were explosives used to clear the roadblocks?" asked senior legal counsel to the commission Garth McBean.

"To the best of my knowledge, yes," Sewell replied.
