The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says Emancipation Day will be observed on Saturday, August 1.
Director of Legal Services at the Ministry, Camille Bennett-Campbell, says the Holidays (Public General) Act, makes no provision for a change in the day the holiday is observed.
She notes that the only exception is in the case of Labour Day, where if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is celebrated on the following Monday.
She also stresses the law also stipulates payment for work done on a holiday.
For minimum wage earners, this is double their normal wage, while for others the extra money earned is based on their employment contract.
