#JaVotes2016: High spirits, low temperature as Labourites flood Christiana

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has turned its attention to chilly Christiana in Manchester North East, the stomping ground of Audrey Shaw for the past 22 years.

Labourites from across the parish have braved biting cold winds to attend the party's mass rally.

Huge pots of warm brew are steaming over fires in the town square and supporters are making good use of the potion to keep them warm.

An elderly man sipping from cup of the soup, seemed oblivious to the 16 degree Celsius temperature.

"Me get used to it," he said, before returning his concentration on his soup.

Many of heads are covered, with head wraps and handkerchiefs and customary green t-shirts are only peeping from behind some heavy jackets.

Notwithstanding, the reggae music, commonplace at political rallies, competes with the cacophonous sounds of vuvuzelas.

Shaw, affectionately called "Man A Yard" has been the Member of Parliament for Manchester North Eastern since 1993.

He is being challenged by the People's National Party's Valenton Wint.
