Holness: Implementation of a master drainage plan will have to be fast-tracked
Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Government will have to fast track implementation of a master drainage plan for Jamaica.
He was speaking in Dover, St Catherine, which was one of the stops on his tour of flood-ravaged communities this afternoon.
Holness noted that Jamaica was experiencing severe weather events of greater intensity and with more frequency than before.
He said these disasters are putting greater strain on infrastructure.
Holness said a master drainage plan has already been completed and its implementation will now have to be accelerated.
Holness also said the Government will also have to crack down on haphazard settlement.
The first stop on the tour was Sunnyside in Linstead, St Catherine, which was severely affected by flooding yesterday.
Holness was also scheduled to stop at Aeon Town, Frankfield, Ebony Park, Rocky Point and Lalley in Clarendon as well as Cave valley in St Ann.
