Mourners gathered at the Portmore Seventh-day Adventist Church in St Catherine where the funeral for Constable Leighton Hanson was held.
Constable Hanson was disarmed by a gunman on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew, who shot him in the head.
Hanson had gone to investigate reports of a robbery and a stabbing incident on a bus in the vicinity of the Merl Grove High School when he accosted a man believed to have been the perpetrator.
While being searched by Hanson, the man grabbed the policeman and engaged him in a tussle.
The attacker managed to take the policeman's weapon and shot him.
The attacker was subsequently shot by a soldier who was in the vicinity. The attacker later died at hospital.
