British drug smuggler fined more than $2m, sent to prison

A female British national who was charged with several drug related offences was sentenced after she pleaded guilty in the St James Parish Court on Monday.
She is Alaha Robotham of a Birmingham, England address. Robotham was arrested at the Sangster International Airport in St James on Wednesday, February 15, by detectives from the Police Narcotics Division.
This after she attempted to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany with ganja and cocaine valued at just under J$3 million. The drug was concealed in canned products inside her suitcase.
When she appeared in court Robotham was sentenced to six months or $850,000 on the charge of possession of cocaine, six months or $1 million for attempting to export cocaine, $15,000 or six months for possession of ganja and $492,300.00 or six months for attempting to export ganja.
Robotham was also sentenced to the mandatory two years in prison for the cocaine and ganja charges.
The sentences will run concurrently.
