St Ann teen, waitress charged in attempted ganja smuggling

A St Ann teenage girl and a waitress have been arrested and charged after attempting to smuggle ganja through the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

The girl, aged 16 as well as 26-year-old waitress Shelly-Ann Thomas, both from Ocho Rios, have been charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps preparatory to export ganja and conspiracy.

The police say about 2:00 pm Monday, Thomas and the teen arrived at the airport and checked in to board a flight to Barbados.

The police say their luggage were screened and three parcels of compressed ganja, weighing six pounds were found.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $22,400.

The woman and the teen are scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
