Soldier, wife arrested following seizure of over 600lbs of ganja
The police are reporting that a Jamaica Defence Force soldier and his wife are now in custody in relation to a major seizure.
The police say they were arrested during operations in Greater Portmore, St. Catherine this morning where over 600 pounds of ganja, cash, and other items were seized.
They say arrangements are being made for them to be interviewed in the presence of their attorney.
It's reported that between 12:15 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., Narcotics detectives and police personnel from the St. Catherine South Division conducted an operation at a premises in the community during which both compressed and loose ganja were found.
According to the police, the ganja weighed 651.8 pounds.
Cash totalling $265,000, a licensed firearm along with ammunition, and two motor cars were also seized.
