Police federation condemns murder of policeman in Westmoreland
The Jamaica Police Federation, which represents rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), has condemned the brutal murder of Constable Rohan Bucknor and the continued criminal attacks on citizens.
Bucknor was shot multiple times while at a barbershop in Petersfield, Westmoreland on Sunday night.
He subsequently died at hospital.
In a statement, Chairman of the Police Federation Corporal Arleen McBean said, “the citizens of Jamaica must now accept that there is a calculated attack on law and order within our society; where scant regard is shown for human life and where criminals believe that they can carry out brazen attacks on members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the citizenry of Jamaica”.
She added,“While there are laws that are enacted to curve deviant and uncouth behaviour, coward criminals must at all times be prepared to face harsher penalties for their continued atrocities.”
McBean argued that protection must never be given to persons in the society who create mayhem and rob families of their loved ones on a daily basis.
She also bemoaned what he described as the deafening silence of some individuals and groups within the society whenever members of the JCF are killed.
“We believe that the continued silence weakens the possibility of greater partnership to stem the upsurge of crime and violence in Jamaica,” She said.
The police federation is pleading to its membership to remain resolute but calm and tactful in the face of scorn, danger, ridicule and imminent threat, and continue to embrace their Oath of Office.
It is also reminding its membership that even as they mourn the loss of another colleague at the hands of coward criminals, they must remember that self- preservation is key and encourage them to continue giving professional and unwavering service to the citizens of Jamaica.
