'Chucky' Brown Trial | Prosecution 'surprised' by witness statement
The prosecution in the trial of policeman Collis 'Chucky' Brown seemed to have been taken by surprise this morning following the revelation that a crown witness gave a statement to the police in relation to the murder case.
The witness confirmed that he gave a written statement to the police some three days after the shooting death of Robert 'Gutty' Dawkins on January 10, 2009, in Palmer's Cross, Clarendon.
The witness made the admission during cross-examination by Brown's attorney Norman Godfrey.
Queen's counsel Caroline Hay, who is leading the three-member prosecution team, indicated that they were unaware of the existence of the statement.
Hay said checks will be made to locate the document.
Brown, who has been in custody since 2014, is indicted on charges stemming from incidents in 2009 and 2012 in which Dawkins, Dwayne Douglas, and Andrew Fearon were shot and killed.
He is being accused of being a part of a syndicate of cops who allegedly carried out extra-judicial killings.
