Suspect arrested, charged for one of three new year's day killings in August Town

The police have arrested and charged a suspect for one of three killings in August Town, eastern  St Andrew on new year's day.

The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Marvin Markland, otherwise called Papa, a businessman of Goldsmith Villa, Kingston 7. He has been charged with murder, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Markland is charged in connection with the killing of 34-year-old Omar Johnson of Payton Place, August Town.

Johnson was killed about 8:00 a.m. on January 1. He was reportedly walking along a roadway in the community when he was pounced on by men armed with high-powered rifles who shot him several times.

Markland was charged after being formally interviewed in the presence of his lawyer yesterday.

The police say his court date is still being finalised.

Following the killing of the three men on new year's day, the police imposed a curfew in sections of August Town.
