Partially burnt body of woman found with stab wounds
Orange Bay, Portland:
The Portland police are probing a suspected case of murder after the partially burnt body of a middle-age woman of Orange Bay in the parish was found with what appeared to be stab wounds.
The body of the 54-year-old woman, whose name has been withheld by the police, was found in a room of her house at Forty Acres shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Firefighters, who responded to a call, arrived in Orange Bay and found the house engulfed in flames. Following cooling-down operations, the body of the woman was found partially burnt.
The police, who were on the scene, carried out preliminary examination of the body and discovered what they believe are stab wounds inflicted to the chest and back of the deceased.
Since the discovery of the body with stab wounds, residents at Forty Acres have expressed shock at what they believe is a senseless killing, as according to them, the woman was always at peace with everyone in the community.
Tuesday’s murder brings to nine the number of persons killed in the Portland Police Division since the start of 2021, which is still the lowest islandwide.
