Taxi operator shot in Half-Way Tree by policeman
A taxi man was this morning shot in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew by a policeman.
The incident happened about 7:15 in front of Brooklyn Supermarket on Hope Road.
It is reported that the cabbie was instructed by the police to stop but he allegedly disobeyed and attempted to flee.
It is further alleged that in a bid to avoid being hit by the taxi man, the cop pulled his service gun and opened fire, hitting the cabbie.
A team from the Independent Commission of Investigations is now at the scene probing the shooting.
The traffic has been diverted from the heavy-used corridor, causing a pile-up.
The police have since issued an advisory stating that the area is impassable and that road users should use alternative routes.
