Ex-soldier accused of stealing rental car remanded
Former Jamaica Defence Force soldier Ricardo Dacres, who is charged for failing to return a rental car, was remanded today in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Dacres is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
Today, he was provided with legal aid after the court was told that he unable to secure a lawyer.
He is to return to court on May 11 when the case will again be mentioned.
The court heard allegations that Dacres rented a Toyota Voxy motor car on March 11 for three days.
Upon expiration of the contract, he reportedly failed to returned the vehicle.
The complainant allegedly made numerous attempts to contact Dacres, which proved futile.
As a result, a report was made to the Spanish Town police and an investigation was launched into the matter.
Dacres was subsequently apprehended by the police, but the vehicle was not recovered.
He was later charged after a question and answer session.
