Ray Ray Market again gutted by fire
Technocrats of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) are expected to visit the site of the Ray Ray Market in downtown Kingston today, where there was another major fire in the wee hours Tuesday.
There was extensive damage following the inferno which reportedly started shortly after 1 a.m.
The Gleaner understands that all the stalls and their contents were destroyed, affecting the livelihood of vendors.
Superintendent Joshua Davis, who is in charge of operations for the Kingston & St Andrew division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, said three units were dispatched to tackle the blaze along with a water tanker.
The location was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived.
Ray Ray Market is an almost annual challenge for the firefighters who have been dispatched to the location each year to extinguish a fire.
Checks by our news team showed that the location was damaged by fire in January 2023, February 2022, June 2020, April 2019, August 2018 and November 2017.
