A motorcyclist who reportedly tried to 'undertake' a truck in Westmoreland was one of three people who died in early-morning motor vehicle crashes on Christmas Day.

Killed in the Westmoreland crash are 22-year-old Andre Clarke, otherwise 'Bugee Man,' a bike taxi operator of Whitehall in the parish, and his pillion 24-year-old Tevon Allen, of Lionel Town, Clarendon.

A female victim from a different road accident is yet to be identified.

According to a police report, the driver of the Cobra CG2000 motorcycle was travelling along the Nonpariel main road in Westmoreland about 6:20 a.m. when he attempted to 'undertake' a truck.

It's reported that he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a large boulder.

Both men were flung from the motorcycle, which was extensively damaged.

The men sustained head and bodily injuries.

They assisted to the Savanna-La-Mar Hospital where they were succumbed.

The third victim was struck by a car while crossing Marcus Garvey Drive in St Andrew about 4:15 a.m., the police report.

A total of 362 people have died in motor vehicle crashes this year, compared to 419 for the comparative period last year, according to the latest police statistics.

Some 25 people have died on the nation's roadways this month, traditionally one of the deadliest for motor vehicle crashes.

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) welcomed the overall 14 per cent decrease in road deaths this year.

Dr Lucien Jones, vice chairman of the NRSC, said Jamaica is on pace to record just under 370 road deaths.
