A 54-year-old janitor from Brown's Town in St Ann has been charged with theft involving approximately $290,000 from a business in the parish last year.

Arland Martin is charged with larceny as a servant.

According to the Brown's Town police, the manager of the business discovered discrepancies in two separate transactions, revealing that sums of $140,300 in October and $146,000 in December were missing.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed Martin accessing the company's vault on two occasions, each time removing cash, a police statement said.

A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to his arrest.
