Updated | Motorists now required to print online fitness receipts from TAJ before going to depot
The Island Traffic Authority is reporting that all motorists are now required to print their online Certificate of Fitness receipts obtained from the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) portal before proceeding to any service hubs.
The authority says this is to ensure a seamless process in issuing certificates of fitness and ensuring the accuracy of customers' unique receipt numbers.
Customers are also encouraged to ensure they purchase the correct certificate of fitness fee for their vehicle.
Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Relations at the authority, Dontae Matthews, said there have been situations where customers turn up at service hubs with receipts purchased for the wrong type of vehicle.
“It is important that they check the tax code, as this can pose a problem when they turn up at the Service Hub. For example, a private motor vehicle driver purchasing a receipt for a motorcycle, or a commercial vehicle operator purchasing a fitness fee for a private motor vehicle. Cases like these would warrant the customer going back to TAJ to initiate a refund,” Matthews pointed out.
The correct tax codes and certificate of fitness fees are as follows:
Private Motor Vehicle (Car/Truck)
Tax Code: 165
Fee: $4,500
Motor Cycle
Tax Code: 384
Fee: $4,500
Public Passenger and Commercial Carrier Vehicles (Car/Truck)
Tax Code:152
Fee: $5,400
Trailer and Tractor
Tax Code:385
Fee: $5,400
